You might be at that stage in your life when you are considering a satisfying and fulfilling career path to pursue for the rest of your life. Perhaps you are already working through a career that you are not completely satisfied with and you are considering a change.

Have you considered a career in teaching? Most people who pursue teaching as a career find it to be a very satisfying job that allows them to pursue their own academic interest on the side. Whether it is for elementary, high school, or college and university, here are a few reasons why you should consider going to teacher’s college:

1. The work is very fulfilling in reaching out to new students

When you become a teacher, you also become a kind of community leader. For people who enjoy their community or would like to contribute to another school board. Teaching gives you the chance to give back to the community and develop a close relationship with your students that often lasts a lifetime. Many teachers describe how rewarding it is when their students return to their classroom after years of graduating from the school to describe where they work, what they have been achieving, etc. In fact, it tends to be the reason most people get into teaching in the first place.

2. College will land you the teaching job you need

According to the 2016 Ontario College of Teachers, 83 percent of recent Ontario College graduates managed to find employment within six months of their graduation. When you go to a teacher’s college, the odds of receiving that first job are already in your favour, so the risk of long-term unemployment is fairly low. With the right amount of work and dedication, there is not much of a reason why you would not be able to find a career in a position you like teaching a subject that you are very passionate and knowledgeable about.

3. Teachers colleges come with career placement options

Another benefit of the teachers college is the career placement opportunities. Colleges tend to have a few company collaborations that allow students to find a placement and start making a good impression right away. Placement arrangements also give student teachers the skills they will need to carry out the rest of their career. In teachers college, it is one of the ways that student earn a hands-on learning experience.

4. Teachers receive flexible hours, holidays, and other perks

Another benefit working teachers receive is flexible hours (especially if you are a substitute teacher or a university professor) and holidays off – not to mention time off in the Summer time when the school season is over. Your teaching career will also experience other perks like health insurance and pension plans. These perks are not available to all careers, so it is important to find a job that has your best interests in mind.

There are essentially many reasons why people are interested in a teaching career. The main reason most people go into teaching is because they are passionate about a certain subject and would like to extend that passion to a new generation of students and enlightened individuals. With the right skills and dedication, this person could be you.
